Dina's Italian Cafeteria

This will be a fair review. The food was solid, portions could've been a little bigger though. You're given juuust enough to take edge off, not entirely fill your stomach. The owner, I believe, Chuck was a friendly guy who has passion for his food and all the exact ingredients that go into it. He doesn't use canola oil (thank God) as it's a GMO oil, only high quality ingredients from Italy. The meatball parm was very tasty - really good flavor, a bit pricey though at $17. The homemade pasta was good, the pesto sauce wasn't my favorite, but still flavorful. The peppers 🌶 though as a garnish insert in the pasta was delicious! They use mascarpone cheese in the cannolis and not ricotta. They were tasty, but I still have my favorite elsewhere. The price of $7 was high for two small cannolis, but I made an exception to try them. They don't put chocolate chips in the filling and only on the butt end of the cannoli - unfortunately they forgot to put some on mine as requested- no big deal. I'd still visit this place again because I liked the owner and he doesn't skimp on quality. Kudos.

Yesterday I had a revelatory meal at Dina’s. I was able to try a sample of everything, from the salad to sandwiches and pasta, and it was so good. It was hard to pick favorites, so I’ll share some highlights: the focaccia with ancient grains was wonderful. I make pizza at home and Chuck and his team have cornered excellent dough. The eggplant and artichoke appetizers are amazing, as are the pasta dishes and I really loved the meatball and caprese sandwiches. The cesar salad was super fresh and the cannolis were delicious! My cat is named Figaro Cannoli and they were just as fun and sweet. The atmosphere in Dina’s is very welcoming and fun, with loads of local touches honoring Newburgh and the owner’s story. My kids in my party loved the food and got a kick out of the pool table in back, they had a blast! There are so many options out there, and it can be hard to sift through the hype. But I would go back to Dina’s every time I’m back home in Newburgh if I could. It is really that good and I highly recommend it as an instant classic. This place is amazing! My first job was at a family opened Italian restaurant so I’m particular about my pasta. This food is hot, fresh and delicious! The Lumache alla Vodka is perfection! The noodles were perfectly al dente and the flavor was on point. The meatballs were juicy and hearty as well. And did I mention the delicious cannoli’s?? YUM! Happy to have this gem in downtown Newburgh! The walk up window, online orders or calling is the only way to order for now. However, I can’t wait until the whole place opens up for the full dining experience! Try it out, they won’t disappoint!
